New Ride Mag

ride

Nowadays it’s not that often when I pick up BMX magazines but every once and a while I still do. I do have a pile of them in my studio though (one of the benefits of doing a BMX event). Will has been kind enough to send me Dig and the other mag that I sometimes like to check is Ride UK. It’s a decent mag and the good thing is that it’s available at Estonian newsstands and it’s also done by friends. Long-time editor-in-chief Mark Noble has given the wheel to Banners and mr Fenlon is in charge for the web stuff.

Anyway, the new issue is out and it has some nice features. Long article about the rise and fall of wild boy Stephen Murray. There’s also an article about Ty Morrow. (If you’ve ever been to Simpel Session you for sure know this guy.) As well as Tony Hamlin. This guy got his first taste of Estonia last January as well and has now some fans here. There’s feature about the newly reformed DC UK team’s trip to sketchy-but-fun Czech Republic which was an interesting read too. Banners shot the photos and James Cox wrote the words. Plus of course a lot of regulars.

One crazy thing that I’ve noticed over the years is the fact that in most issues throughout the year there’s always a little mention about Estonia or Simpel Session. Be it a photograph or an ad or a word in some interview or article. This issue is no different. Firstly, Nathan Williams puts Estonia as second in his list of best ever trips. And secondly, we get bristled up by Stephen Murray for not making helmets mandatory at last Simpel Session. I guess we’ve made quite an impact to the BMX world. Pretty crazy, especially considering the country we live in.

Go to R-Kiosk to pick up the magazine or you can subscribe it here.

Bike shops in Helsinki

helsinki

As mentioned in the last post, it’s not very easy to find nice bike parts or bicycles in Estonia. So, let’s find out what are the options just 80km north in Finnish capital Helsinki. Like most cities in Scandinavia, Helsinki is bike friendly and has quite some nice stores as well. Jussi Kulonpalu sent us a few tips where to go to look for a bike.

new shop in Paris

cyclope

Usually it needs a shop or good meeting place for a scene to grow and flourish. Compared to some other big European cities Paris has very modest track bike scene. At least for now. But that might change soon as some guys have opened their workshop called Cyclope in 11th district – the city’s only shop dedicated to repairing, building and selling fixed gear bikes.
